Visual design, in every sense of the word.

I'm Bas, I'm a designer who's passionate about making cool stuff, no matter if it's digital product design, event branding, motion design, or illustration. Either way I'll be doodling along.

Statieheld

Plenty of people are happy to get rid of their empty bottles and cans. Plenty of others are actively looking for them. Statieheld brings the two together.

The brief

I noticed the current deposit-return system doesn't really work: plenty of people can't be bothered to return their empties, while others survive by collecting them off the street. I set out to research how to connect the two groups — safely, structurally, and without the awkwardness — so they could help each other out.

The result

A clickable prototype for Statieheld, backed by a design rationale that walks through every decision behind it. The case shipped with a full pitch deck, product biography and prototype file, all linked below.

"You deserve this nomination for the innovative nature of your application — it targets a hard-to-reach audience while tackling the very real problem of deposit-can litter. You designed it so two very different groups could get to know each other in a positive way."

— Marije ten Brink, graduation coach

Statieheld was nominated for a Golden Dot Award — the yearly prize for the best graduating work from Communication and Multimedia Design, Frontend Design & Development and Master Digital Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

St. Joseph Festival

Posters, campaigns and screen-printed merch for the biggest house party in Amersfoort. The event is run once a year out of the St. Joseph student housing complex in the city centre of Amersfoort.

Amersfoort's local paper called it an undiscovered gem of the city centre, and 3voor12 wrote it up as one of the region's biggest house parties. Every edition gets its own campaign with a new look, while staying true to the St. Joseph aesthetic.

Since 2024, I've also screen-printed the merch on-site during the event itself. I printed and sold 70 tees in a single afternoon at the first go. Photographs are by @gooshengeveld and @bymarcelleohm on Instagram.

PAAP

A new visual identity for Club PAAP, a club concept in Amersfoort.

Club Paap is a club concept first launched in 2025. It gets most of the rave collectives that Amersfoort has to offer together, offering all of them a stage at a legal location so they can show the people of AMersfoort what they've got. A big part of Club Paap's character is the variety of music across all subgenres of electronic music.

:///UNTITLED

A small events collective run with a close friend, throwing parties around Amersfoort, with the occcasional event in Amsterdam.

I'm usually involved in organising too, but the part I'm consistently involved in is the design: the poster that has to work as a social post and a print flyer at once, the animated version for the story, the run of variations for every new edition.

We've consistently done a new years event for the past 4 years. Other sporadic events happen about 2/3 times a year. No matter what the event is like, each needs a design, which I'm always responsible for.

Minor Visual Interface Design — Illustration & interactive design

Down the Sneaker Hole

A point-and-click visual interface that explores the world of Chinese replica sneakers and streetwear, built entirely from illustration.

Inspired by early-2010s webcomics and old-school point-and-click adventure games, and based on first-hand experience of buying sneakers in China on a regular basis, this project explores a niche (and slightly taboo) subculture through a fully illustrated, clickable world.

Every illustration and article is hand-made. The goal was an interface that's completely intertwined with its content, with little stories and details hidden throughout the map for people willing to click around.

Ongoing — Social & print

Tjommies Music Bar

A full menu redesign, plus posters and social content for the Christmas house party and regular events at this Amersfoort music bar. Tjommies is a fun and cozy bar me and my friends meet at on a regular basis.

2024 — Motion, Endeavour internship

KNVB Futsal Animations

Frame-by-frame animation added to a promotional video for the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), made during my internship at Endeavour.

Unlucky Otto

Unlucky Otto is a animation exercise I've designed for a class during my Minor's Visual Interface Design.

Not just Otto on his bike, but also the buttons have been hand animated, frame by frame. Most of the audio is also done by me.

Unless you're in a good mood, you can make Otto fall off of his bike as manu times as you like, in a variety of ways.

Photography

In 2023 I picked up photography, as it was something I've wanted to get into for years.

Event

On the floor at parties and events, most of it shot for :///UNTITLED and Club Paap.

Portrait

Strangers, Friends, and friends in bands.

Misc

If you live in a beautiful city like Amersfoort it's rather easy to take nice shots.

Video & film

A short-film and a couple of concept ads made outside of client work.

About me

Hi, I'm Bas, I'm a designer born and raised in Amersfoort.

I studied Communication and Multimedia Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, with minors in advertising campaigns and filmmaking, including a short film made in collaboration with Dutch broadcaster NPO 3.

I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon, and chasing graphic design ever since I installed a pirated copy of Photoshop back in 2011. Music production became a hobby in 2022, photography followed in 2023, and both keep sneaking into the design work. Since I'm religiously making my own spotify playlists, in 2026 I figured it was time to pick up DJ'ing as well.

Outside of work: huge Star Wars nerd, into cars, retro video games, Lego, bucket hats, and generally just people.
